Camden Campus Library Guide

There are two libraries on the Camden Campus. The Sharp Library (1st floor Dorrance) houses the clinical collection. The UMDNJ/Coriell Library (1st floor of the Education and Research Building) houses the basic science and research collection.
Collections

There is a web-based online catalog that can be accessed through our library home page. You can search the catalog for books, journals, audiovisual materials, and electronic resources available at 4 UMDNJ campuses.

Books

  • Books can be checked out for one month with one renewal. You must be a registered library patron to borrow books.
  • The UMDNJ Libraries provide access to over 200 electronic medical textbooks.

Journals

  • There are approximately 400 hard copy journal titles in the joint collections, including 82 current subscriptions at the Sharp Library.
  • The UMDNJ Libraries provide access to 2,500+ biomedical ejournals (registered users only).
Microcomputers

The Sharp Library

  • The Microcomputer Center has 23 computers, 2 laser printers, and 2 color scanners.
  • There are 8 computers, with a laser printer, located near the reference desk.

The UMDNJ/Coriell Library

  • The library has 2 networked computers with a laser printer. One of the computers is dedicated to UpToDate.
  • There are 8 IST computers, which require a UMDNJ CORE login and password, with a laser printer. A color scanner is connected to one of the computers.

After Hours Access

  

Sharp Library Microcomputer Center: Access is available after regular library hours via your Cooper I.D. badge. Swipe your I.D. badge through the badge reader located by the door adjacent to the Dorrance elevators. You must register for after hours access.

UMDNJ/Coriell Research Library: After hours access to the library is available with an E&R Building access card. Use your card to enter AND to exit.

Remote Access

Your Library registration not only allows you to borrow books, but is also provides you with remote access to electronic resources from work and from home.

At the Remote Access Login screen, you will be asked to enter one of the following:

  • your last name and the last four digits of your UMDNJ ID Number, your Social Security Number, or your barcode number
  • your UMDNJ CORE username and password
Reference

Have a question you can’t answer? Don’t have the time to do a literature search? Having difficulty with doing your own searches? Why not call an expert? The reference librarians can help you. Stop by the reference desk Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or set up a consultation by calling x2522 (or 342-2522 from the E&R Building).

Please, don’t think you have to do every search on your own. It is just as important to know when to ask for help!

Electronic Resources

Databases

  • When you put your cursor over the word Databases on the left-hand side of our library home page, a list of databases will appear in the middle of the page.
  • You can choose from the list or select Complete List of Databases.

Electronic Journals and Books

UpToDate

  • The CD-ROM version of this practical reference, comprised of thousands of original topic reviews is available on two computers at the Cooper University Hospital location and on one dedicated computer at the library in the Education and Research Building.
