  • The Director is back in her office.
  • The Archives have moved to a larger space in the 2nd room to the right as you enter the Library.
  • The book exchange shelf has returned to its spot by the elevator in the Library.

In the "back" of the Library (beyond the 2 sets of glass doors)

  • The cubicles at the far end have been replaced by a table and 14 carrels for quiet study.

May 3, 2007 New Door

While the Hospital Library is being renovated, users are reminded that the UMDNJ and Coriell Research Library at the E&R Building has study carrels and a study table. Current periodicals at this location include BMJ, JAMA, Lancet, Nature, and Science.

There are also six UMDNJ/ACS computers and five Library computers (one with UpToDate) available for use. There is no login required for the library computers. Note that users without an ACS username/password should see Alisha Crawford at the UMDNJ/Coriell circulation desk for a temporary login for the ACS computers. No password is available on weekends or holidays.

The Library is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. After-hours access is available to faculty, staff, and students with Honeywell access cards.

No Journals

Study carrels in the rear of the Cooper Library were removed to make way for a temporary fire exit.

Study tables were removed and placed in storage. One table remains outside of the Reference Office.

Bound journals and shelving were removed and placed in storage.

Current journals (2007) are available at the Circulation Desk.

Electronic journals are still available via the Library's website.

The book collection remains near the Reference Office.

The photocopier is now located in the front of the Library near the door to the Microcomputer Center.

A microfiche reader is in the book collection in place of the photocopier. The second microfiche reader has been removed.

The Cooper Archives office has moved to the Microcomputer Center.

The Library, located on the first floor of Dorrance, will soon become part of the Cooper construction project. Since we are situated between current construction on the garage and the pavilion, it was inevitable that the new corridor connecting these two important structures would intersect the current library space. Work goes on.

The new library will sit on both sides of the corridor. One side will house books, journals, and study carrels. Library functions such as circulation, document delivery, collection development and cataloging will take place on this side of the corridor.  The other half of the library will house the computer center and additional computers, the reference desk and office, some comfortable seating and 3 group study rooms. Education and information services will be offered at this site.

During Phase I, the back of the library (from the reference desk to the rear wall) will be closed off. During Phases II and III, while the front section of the library is under construction, there will be a temporary corridor through to the completed Phase I portion of the library.

The computer center, as well as one side of the library, is expected to be open throughout the renovation. Access to electronic resources will continue without interruption and the library staff will continue to be reachable by phone and/or email as well as in person. Slated to begin about the first week of May 2007, the construction project is expected to take approximately 10 months.

Check back here for more updates as the renovation progresses.
