What is the Colorectal Care Center?

The Colorectal Care Center (CCC) is a group of physicians, nurses, and support staff dedicated to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions and diseases specific to the Colon, Rectum and Anus. The people who make up the Colorectal Care Center are specialists board certified in Colorectal Surgery, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Enterostomal Therapy.

In addition to highly specialized knowledge and skills, Cooper CCC is equipped with state of the art Radiological, Endoscopic, and Physiologic facilities.

Why choose the Colorectal Care Center?

Unfamiliarity, embarrassment, and fear of discomfort often delay visits to the doctor for patients with problems in these areas. The Cooper Colorectal Care Center is made up of professionals who are sensitive to the needs of these people, and skilled in techniques to maximize relaxation and minimize discomfort.

Because the CCC is made up of a variety of medical disciplines, they remain at the forefront of medical science, diagnosis and treatment.

Common Colon-Rectal and Anal Problems

Many people suffer from hemorrhoids, fissures, warts, as well as chronic diarrhea or constipation. Most people do not know these can be treated quickly and easily at the Colorectal Care Center as an outpatient, often without surgery.

Other patients experience pain, bleeding or incontinence, and do not seek treatment out of fear or embarrassment. These may be easily managed or may be a sign of a more serious problem. The Cooper CCC is dedicated to early diagnosis and intervention.

Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis can now be managed with a combination of medicines, surgery and nutrition. The Colorectal Care Center offers complete care and support including curative surgery for Ulcerative Colitis which avoids a permanent stoma.

Cancer Screening

Colorectal Cancer is the second most common cancer. 150,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Before becoming a cancer, almost all tumors begin as small benign growths called polyps. Polyps and cancers grow without symptoms. Pain and bleeding often signal ore advanced disease. With proper screening, polyps can be detected, and removed without surgery. Cancers can be detected before they cause symptoms, with greater chance for cure. Having a close relative with colorectal cancer increases your risk for cancer.

The American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, The American College of Surgeons and the American Cancer Society all recommend:

Cancer Treatment

Many advances have occurred in the treatment of colon, rectal and anal cancer. Our team of surgeons, radiologists and oncologists meets regularly to discuss each patient's care and share the latest information and developments. The Colorectal Care Center is actively involved in clinical research, offering a variety of cancer treatment protocols. Patients with anal and rectal cancer who might have required a permanent colostomy are offered surgery which preserves the sphincter and avoids a permanent stoma.

The Cooper CCC is developing a comprehensive Ano-rectal Physiology Lab which will provide tests for the diagnosis and treatment of incontinence, chronic constipation, chronic ano-rectal pain and pelvic floor disorders including:
