The residents' composite evaluation is done with the Clerkship Director at the mid and end of the rotation in Camden. Students cannot miss time during their clinical rotation without proper notification and approval. Students cannot miss core lectures without proper notification and approval. If a student misses any time on the clerkship without proper notification or approval, a professionalism form will be generated and his/her clinical grade will be negatively affected. If the student is ill, has a death in the family, or other family/social issues rendering them unable to complete the clerkship requirements, he/she will receive a grade of incomplete with the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, and/or Associate Dean and Department Chair. Upon completion of all clerkship responsibilities, the student will receive a grade upon satisfactory completion of all requirements. Students must display professionalism and appropriate behavior during all clinical and academic activities. Failure to do so will require notification of the dean of student affairs and an adjustment of the final clinical grade. Professionalism includes reliability, honesty, integrity, respect for others, and altruism. RemediationIf the final grade is a Conditional Pass or Failure then the student will have to remediate the course. Remediation may include:
Passing the written exam is a requirement of this clerkship. A score of 58 is considered passing. If the student fails the written shelf exam, the student's final grade will be recorded as conditional pass, regardless of the calculated average. The student will then need to discuss a remediation plan with the clerkship director and retake the written exam in order to achieve a passing grade. If the student passes the written exam, the final grade will be changed to a CP/P. If the student fails the re-exam, he/she will receive a final grade of F and he/she must repeat the entire 6 week clerkship, preferably at another institution. Students who have failed a clerkship for a second time will be subject to dismissal from medical school. All students are required to complete and turn in clerkship evaluations at the end of the rotation.
