Student Health Services

Studen Health Services are provided at no cost, and at no co-pay, by the Camden Student Health Service.

"Initial history, physical and laboratory examination on all transfer students from other medical schools entering the third year at RWJMS - Camden;

b. Unlimited, physical assessments and consultations with DGIMPC [Division of Internal Medicine and Primary Care] physicians and other personnel, including:

(1) Primary care, including preventive care, general medical services such as episodic and chronic care screening and monitoring;

(2) Immunization review and updating;

(3) Health education;

(4) Women's health services, including access to a female physician on request;

(5) Minor surgery [suture (stitches) insertion and removal, and biopsies];

(6) Selected drugs available at no cost to the student [limited to two-week prescriptions], including each of the following (or their equivalent): amoxicillin, penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, doxycycline, cephalexin, metronidazole, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, phenazopyridine, ibuprofen, naproxen, pseudoephedrine/guaifenesin;

(7) STD screening, counseling and treatment for women and men;

c. Annual PPD and appropriate follow-up care;

d. Annual influenza vaccines;

e. Record keeping and periodic reports to the Dean's Office regarding immunizations will be provided as required. Titers for varicella will be included in the Capitation rate. Any student having absent or low varicella titer will receive the Varivax vaccine. Hepatitis B immunization as required will also be administered. The costs to acquire the immunization material are invoiced to UMDNJ-RWJMS;

f. Management of exposures to blood borne pathogens. Medical students will be given initial therapy at the Student Health Service [8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday]
or at the Emergency Department, University Hospital at all other times. Other initial counseling and management will be provided by DGIMPC as is outlined by Medical School Policy;

g. Allergy desensitizations and storage of allergy medications. Desensitization treatments will be based on the schedule of treatments established by the student's allergist. The students of the RWJMS will be able to access our physicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through the hospital operators [856-342-2000]."
