Below is a compilation of the words and phrases
most commonly needed in eliciting a history from patients who speak Spanish.
It is by no means meant to be a thorough and exhaustive treatment of what is
necessary, but it is meant to assist you in those situations where a translator
is not available. Remember, it is a non-English speaking patient's right to
have a translator. Unit clerks and the Emergency Department can arrange translators.

22.5 Hints
You can express the date as: el (date) de (month).
For pronunciation, remember that you may not express yourself completely without
an accent, but you should have no trouble being understood. Just remember that
the Spanish j is pronounced like an English "h" (as is the Spanish
g when it precedes and i or e), while the Spanish z sounds more like an "s".
Do not pronounce the Spanish h.
